Planning your wedding is an exciting time and with so many venues out there you will certainly have lots of choice. Most people start by having a browse on the internet and in doing so you can get a good feel for things but there’s nothing quite like experiencing a venue first hand.
All about you
A showround is the perfect opportunity for you to look around a potential venue in a relaxed and informal way. Your host will want to highlight the key areas and features that the venue has to offer but essentially the experience should be all about YOU!. A good host will want to know how you envisage your day and what’s important to you. It’s absolutely fine if at this stage you don’t know – that’s part of their role to inspire you. Equally if you have a whole list of “musts” then that’s fine too, you can discuss these on the day and together start to build a picture of how your wedding is going to be.
Trust the expert
Without exception from initial enquiry right through to the end of the day, the emphasis should be on creating that perfect day for you and your guests. However, it is always worth listening carefully to the wedding co-ordinator as more often than not, they will have suggestions that you might not have considered, experience in the situation that you are discussing, alternatives that might work better or indeed if it’s a great venue then all of the above! Ask questions, test their knowledge and consider their advice. They will have a wealth of experience and are there to work with you to ensure that you are relaxed throughout and enjoy the planning process as much as the day itself.
How long will it take?
On average a showround will take approximately one hour. It partly depends on the size of the venue but in general this will give you enough time to look around and discuss specifics too. You will be guided around the venue, have opportunities to ask questions and also given some private time to take a look on your own so that you can chat about what you really think. Most people like to come back for a second viewing, when they have really fine-tuned their potential list down to the final few often with family/friends who can offer valuable insights.
Be open minded
When you find a venue that you love, be open minded about the options. There will be lots of decisions to make and at this early stage lots that can be altered too. Dates for example, if you can be flexible about dates then this can help when it comes to budget. Simply by choosing a different date you can often make big cost savings and still have the same amazing venue, great service and perfect day. Ask to see photographs taken throughout the year so that you can see how it looks through the seasons. Ask about the logistics of the day and how you can maximise every area, also think about wet weather options. No one can control the weather but a good venue will have a plan that means you can still get some amazing photographs and enjoy all that the venue has to offer.
Time to think
You will pick up a lot of information and have plenty to think about. A good venue will encourage you to ask questions so don’t ever feel unsure about the details however small. Chances are there will be a simple solution and if there isn’t there’s sure to be a great alternative. Wedding shows are also a good way to get more inspiration, the experience here will be different to a showround but still as important. Over time you will gather all of the information that you need to make that perfect choice. You will probably hear some funny stories along the way and perhaps some horror ones too! It should be an enjoyable experience and whilst there is a huge amount to consider and maybe some compromising to do along the way, when you find your perfect venue it’s a magical thing.
